Dunsborough Lakes is a new sub division of the pretty seaside town: Dunsborough WA that overlooks the crystal clear waters of Geographe Bay in Western Australia in the South West, 254 kilometres (158 mi) south of Perth. Dunsborough Lakes is a popular place for Western Australian families; close to the sheltered waters of Geographe Bay and the ideal setting with it's quiet coves, sandy beaches, surrounding national park, nature reserves and scenic walking trails. Dunsborough Lakes also boasts an impressive new sporting and recreational oval for football, cricket, soccer, t-ball and rugby
During the last decade the town has grown quickly and become quite affluent; consequently cafes have popped up everywhere. The town is a common destination for annual school leavers in WA. Many of the South West Region's fine wineries and restaurants are located just a few km's from the centre of town. Dunsborough Lakes is built around an impressive 18 hole goalf course complete with bar, proshop and driving range. Complete with challenging water features, spectacular greens and fairways, resident kangaroos and year round perfect weather, golfers can experience the challenge of playing on one of th best new golf courses in Australia. Dunsborough Lakes is named after the series of natural and man made lakrs which surround the suburb and provide water for the golf course and playing fields. Dunsborough is named after the nearby Dunn Bay, which was named after Captain Richard Dalling Dunn. Land for a townsite was set aside here in the late 1830s, and there is a recorded whale fishery at "Dunsbro" in 1850. When Dunsborough first appeared on a map in 1839 it was spelt "Dunnsbro" but the extra "n" seems to have disappeared by 1850, and the spelling of "bro" was amended to "borough" when the name was gazetted in 1879 Dunsborough is the older settlement near to Cape Naturaliste while the closer settlement Bunkers Bay is much more recent - having evolved from a group of holiday shacks to the local Millionaires Row community. Dunsborough is serviced by Busselton's public bus service route 903 run by South West Coach Lines. South west coach lines and Transwa coach services also run service to Dunsbrough for connections to other south west towns and Perth.
